Positive virus case reported at CCTI; building disinfected

An individual from the Carbon Career and Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe has tested positive for COVID-19.

A letter sent by CCTI Administrative Director Dave Reinbold to students and families states that CCTI was informed on Friday that an individual from the school tested positive.

Information related to the individual is strictly confidential, said Reinbold, who added the individual has not been in the building in over 14 days.

“When the school was informed of the positive case, we immediately contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Health to seek guidance,” Reinbold said. “Communication occurred regarding risk assessment. After this consultation, it was determined that no students were identified as being at risk, quarantine is not recommended for any students, and school will remain open.

“As has been the case, all of our buildings are disinfected daily. Students and staff have been working diligently to maintain a healthy environment. We ask that everyone continues these efforts.

“This is an opportunity to remind all members of our community of the importance of wearing face coverings, keeping socially distant whenever possible and disinfecting hands and surfaces regularly. We also want to remind families to complete the district’s health screening tool that is to be used before coming to school each day. Staying home when sick or when exhibiting symptoms not only keeps you safe, but also minimizes the risk of infection or quarantine by others.”
