Pleasant Valley soccer team to quarantine through Oct. 29

Pleasant Valley School District’s boys soccer team is to remain in quarantine through Oct. 29, due to a player testing positive for COVID-19. They will attend classes online and can return to the high school on Oct. 30.

Superintendent Lee Lesisko explained that although only one player is positive, the whole team has to quarantine because of the close contact the players have with each other on the field. The coaches were asked to work from home on Monday, while the school district consulted with the state Department of Health.

Lesisko said the DOH advised that the coaches can return to the school today since they are not in close proximity to the players for a prolonged period.

Lesisko also said the DOH has done contact tracing, and all of the district’s buildings have been deep cleaned. The buildings are cleaned every day and deep cleaning routinely takes place every Wednesday and weekends.

“It’s under control. It’s just sad that it happens,” he said about anyone getting infected with the virus.

Lesisko stressed the importance of following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines of wearing a mask, maintaining a social distance and washing hands frequently in order to help reduce the spread.

The school district is also making an effort to get its contact information of the students’ families up-to-date. A link to a form has been placed on the district’s website at www.pvbears.org.

“I want to make sure people get and stay connected to the school district,” he said.

The school district uses a telephone-based communication system called ConnectEd to inform families about emergencies, snow days, coronavirus quarantines and other important announcements.

Anyone who isn’t receiving this information or would like to update the phone numbers that the information is sent to should complete the form and provide the school district with their current contact information.

“If you want to be on the call list, then here is the perfect time to let us know,” Lesisko said.

The form will be active on the district’s website under the header Pleasant Valley School District Telephone Communication until Nov. 9. The information will be updated in the system after that date.
