Lehighton HS reports positive COVID case

An individual at Lehighton Area High School tested positive for COVID-19, Superintendent Jonathan Cleaver said Monday afternoon.

The individual was last in school Oct. 13.

“As it relates to this situation, no students or staff have been identified to be in close contact with the individual,” Cleaver said in a letter to parents. “Due to procedures related to privacy laws, we are limited on the amount of personal medical information we can share. At this time, we ask that everyone respects the privacy of our students and staff.”

Department of Health officials have determined there is no need to close any Lehighton buildings at this time and school will remain open as scheduled. Cleaver said the district will continue to clean and disinfect, as appropriate, and school buildings remain safe for occupancy.

“The Department of Health and the district will continue to monitor this and any other situation that arises in relation to COVID-19,” Cleaver said. “As outlined in our district health/safety plan, the Department of Health is responsible for all contact tracing and school district administration will assist public health officials with this endeavor. Anyone who has been determined to be in close contact with the individual will be directly contacted by the Department of Health with instructions and next steps as it relates directly to the individual.”
