Lansford buying credit card machine
Lansford borough is paying for a credit card machine brought to them by Jim Thorpe National Bank. The total cost of purchase is $727.20 and will be a cost to council directly.
Council President Markovich on Wednesday said the ease of credit card payments will help the residents when going to pay their bills.
“Before, people are told to come back with a money order and they never come back,” he said. “I just think (the credit card machine) will get more people to pay their bills.”
Kennedy Park
Improvements are being planned for Kennedy Park, including the implementation of street lamps.
The shingle replacement for the gazebo roof has begun.
Lansford pool
Contractor Joe Hutta has reassured Markovich that testing for leaks at the pool will be completed before winter.
Other business
The borough is in need of full-time officers as well as part-time officers at the request of Mayor Michele Bartek. Advertisements will be put out to the public shortly. Due to a lack of response using only one vendor, council is currently searching for additional means of advertising.
Councilman John Turcmanovich said the fire department called residents requesting donations to help keep the fire department paid and operating. Turcmanovich said the response was underwhelming, which he said matches with the fact that donations have been dropping each year.
“If we paid our firefighters, the taxes would be insurmountable,” Turcmanovich said.
He asked residents to donate when possible. He said he was disheartened to hear about the lack of response.
The downtown streetlamp project is ready for bid now that Bill McMullen of Arro Engineering met with Don Yanac of PPL to review the project and its specifications.
Two laptops were voted to be purchased for police use.
The Lansford police department received 330 calls in September.
