Friday update: 1,566 new virus cases in Pa.

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Friday that there were 1,566 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 179,086.

Allegheny is reporting an increase of 141 cases, Philadelphia is reporting an increase of 136 cases and Westmoreland is reporting an increase of 108 cases.

Locally, Carbon County is reporting 533 cases, an increase of seven new cases. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 remain at 29. Lehigh County is reporting 6,078 cases, an increase of 25. Deaths attributed to COVID-19 are a total of 361. Luzerne County reported an increase of 44 cases, bringing the total to 4,594. Deaths remain at 190. Monroe County has six new cases, bringing the total to 1,904, with 134 deaths. Northampton County has 4,972 cases, an increase of 43 cases. There are 309 deaths. Schuylkill County has 1,511 cases, an increase of 16. Three additional deaths were reported for a total of 71 deaths.

There are 8,457 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, an increase of 25 new deaths reported.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 24,334 resident cases of COVID-19, and 5,342 cases among employees, for a total of 29,676 at 1,015 distinct facilities in 61 counties. Out of our total deaths, 5,603 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

Approximately 11,559 of our total cases are among health care workers.
