Cheerleaders get creative with fundraising

Things looked bleak in the fundraising department for the Pleasant Valley Cheerleaders’ booster club. Due to the pandemic, all the yearly fundraisers were canceled for safety reasons.

“We count on the money from our fundraisers to help cover the expenses of the cheerleading camp and competitions,” said Pamela Huff, president of the cheer booster club.

“That’s when we knew we had to do some serious brainstorming and decided we really had to think outside of the box to come up with a fundraising idea,” she said.

Huff said the group just sat down and started throwing out ideas, and that is when the Flock Your Friends and Family fundraiser became the answer.

Flocking is when someone secretly sneaks in your yard at night, sets a bunch of pink flamingos and leaves a sign that says, “You Have Been Flocked!”

It could be for a friend or family to celebrate a special occasion or it could be just for a laugh.

The cheerleaders work in teams of two and take turns flocking the yards. They do two houses at a time, and each house gets 18 flamingos for two days.

Then the birds move on to two other unsuspecting homeowners.

“We started in the beginning of October, and right now we are booked out to the 22nd. We will keep doing it as long as the weather continues to be warm enough,” Huff said.

You can flock your friends or family members by texting 610-618-0015.
