Weissport plans to add new borough maintenance garage

Weissport is planning to add a new borough maintenance garage on Allen Street, adjacent to the surrounding area that the borough building is located on at 440 Allen St.

The garage will serve as additional space to house larger pieces of equipment utilized for maintaining grounds and other various hardware. The garage will measure 26 by 22 feet and include two 9-foot garage doors.

A portion of Liquid Fuels funds will be allocated toward building the structure. The board was unanimous in proceeding forward by initiating a down payment of $1,394.85.

The maintenance garage will be strictly for borough use.

Playground cameras

After looking once more into resolving a previously deliberated decision whether to move the location of cameras on the playground or purchase an additional one has been settled.

Councilman Arland Moyer said purchasing the additional camera in order to provide optimal playback footage will hopefully deter vandals or others making mischief.

Councilman Thomas Ketchledge agreed to seek out an updated quote to add another camera. Weissport leaders are asking residents that if they witness something suspicious taking place at the playground to note the day, location and approximate time. This will allow for footage to be pinpointed more easily and viewed as needed going forward.

Events can be reported to borough police or to the secretary’s voicemail.

Drainage project

Secretary Jennifer Ketchledge reported that she had been in contact with Jason Skrimcovsky from Carbon County Planning and Development in regard to the long overdue drainage project that has encountered previous setbacks.

The funding has been delayed by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
