Man jailed after McAdoo gun incident

A Hazleton man is facing charges relating to him allegedly threatening to shoot a woman in her McAdoo home following an incident early Thursday.

Matthew Bittner, 25, is in the Schuylkill County Prison, Pottsville, in lieu of $50,000 straight cash bail after he was arraigned on charges of carrying a firearm without a license, criminal trespass, terroristic threats and simple assault.

Police said they were called to a home on East Grant Street at 12:12 a.m. to investigate a report of a woman possibly being held hostage at gunpoint.

At the scene, a woman at the home identified Bittner, who was standing in the living room at the time, as the assailant, saying he entered the home without authorization looking to speak to his ex-girlfriend. The woman told police Bittner was yelling at her, demanding to know where his ex-girlfriend was. She said he lifted his shirt, pulled out a gun and said, “I’m not playing.” She said Bittner made threats to “shoot people.”

Police said Bittner was taken into custody without incident and the gun taken off of him was determined to be a .380 caliber handgun that he did not have a license to carry. Police said he also has active warrants out of Schuylkill County for his arrest.
