Oil spill closes Route 309 Tuesday morning

One of the two northbound lanes of Route 309 in Tamaqua was closed due to a spill Tuesday morning. A tractor trailer traveling from Reading to a site north of Toronto, Canada, blew its engine causing the oil spill. The rig is carrying a unique white cement uncommon to the area. The engine of the truck tractor has just over 100,000 miles on it. Hometown and Tamaqua fire police maintained traffic control at the scene.
