Local roundup: results from October 5

Jim Thorpe and Northwestern both posted victories in boys and girls soccer matches on Monday.

In volleyball, Nativity rallied to hand Marian its first loss of the season.

BOYS SOCCER

Palmerton-Jim Thorpe

Jim Thorpe rolled to a 11-0 nonleague victory over Palmerton.

Jack Morris led the Olympians’ offense with two goals and four assists. Also contributing to the Olympians’ win were Donovan Bierman (two goals, one assist); Chris Condly (goal, two assists), Aiden Clements (two goals), Dawson Meckes (goal, assist), Georgiy Sakharov (goal, assist), Marc Waslesyn (goal) and Jonah Coit (goal).

Northwestern-No. Lehigh

Five first-half goals propelled Northwestern to an 8-1 Colonial League win over Northern Lehigh.

Josh Zellner led the Tigers’ attack with two goals. Cayden Fitch, Matt Johnson, Jeff Garcia, Seth Brady, Colton Coffield and Christian Sikora all added single scores. Fitch and Johnson also had assists.

Tigers’ goalie Austin Vogwill had two saves.

Weatherly-Williams Vy.

Tyler Veasie’s hat trick sparked Weatherly to a 4-1 Schuylkill League victory over Williams Valley.

The Wreckers’ Jacob Solonoski chipped in with a single score, while Tyler McKendry, Trevor Lowman, Trusten Dempsey and Antonio Colecio all were credited with assists.

Frankie Willis (three saves) and Jacob Solonoskie (one save) split time in front of the Wreckers’ net.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Lehighton

Nicole Carroll’s goal with one second left on the clock lifted Jim Thorpe to a 3-2 Schuylkill League victory over Lehighton.

Lauren LeKites added the two other goals for the Olympians.

Abigail Meckes had a goal for the Indians.

Olympians’ keeper Kate Bos finished with five saves, while the Indians’ goalie Alyssa Meyers made 16 saves.

No. Lehigh-Northwestern

Northwestern blanked Northern Lehigh for a 3-0 Colonial League win.

Sophia Motolese and Kylie Zentz posted the goals for the Tigers, while the third one came on an own goal. Olivia Motolese, Kayla Bardonner and Emilia Blechschmidt all were credited with assists.

Minersville-Tamaqua

Grace Motuk’s first-half goal was all Minersville needed to post a 1-0 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

The Battlin’ Miners held a 13-7 edge in shots, while the Blue Raiders held an edge in corners, 5-4.

Blue Raiders’ keeper Zoe Seltzer finished with 12 saves, while the Battlin’ Miners’ goalie Megan Horan recorded seven saves to secure the shutout.

VOLLEYBALL

Pottsville-Lehighton

Pottsville swept Lehighton, 25-14, 25-8, 25-9 in Schuylkill League action.

Maddie Stoffey (four kills, three blocks, two digs, one ace) and Hailey Miller (six digs, five blocks and three kills) both had strong all-around games for the Indians. Megan Aaron (seven digs) played well defensively.

Nativity-Marian

After dropping the first two games, Nativity rebounded to come out on top with a 8-25, 15-25, 25-8, 25-17, 15-11 Schuylkill League victory over Marian.

Alivia Karchner led the Fillies (7-1) with 15 kills, 10 digs and two aces, Ashlyn Klitsch contributed with 25 assists, nine digs and six aces, while Tat Zeleniak recorded 22 digs.

No. Schuylkill-Panther Vy.

Panther Valley earned a 25-14, 25-12, 25-14 Schuylkill League win over North Schuylkill.

Erika Dubosky paced the Panthers’ attack with 16 kills, nine assists, four digs and three aces. Riley McArdle chipped in with five aces and five digs, while Chloe Diekman finished with seven digs.

Blue Mountain-Tamaqua

Blue Mountain remained undefeated with a 25-9, 25-6, 25-9 Schuylkill League win over Tamaqua.

The Blue Raiders’ Madison Baddick had two digs, one kill and one block.

FIELD HOCKEY

Palmerton-Catasauqua

Ana Recker’s hat trick highlighted Palmerton’s 10-0 Colonial League win over Catasauqua.

Also playing well offensively for the Bombers were Emma Christman (two goals, one assist); Emily Baumgardt (two goals); Sydney Frantz (goal, two assists), Molly Mihalko (goal), Jillian Frank (goal), Megan Serfass (assist) and Kelsey Balliet (assist).
