Woods resort donates $12,000 to Trevor project
The Woods Camping Resort in Lehighton has announced that it donated over $12,000 to the Trevor Project, the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer & questioning young people under 25.
Nearly 1.8 million LGBTQ youth consider suicide every year in the United States.
Each camping season, The Woods holds contests for community members to showcase good citizenship and representation of the resort community. Part of their responsibility is to raise funds to help others in need.
The three 2020 Woods title holders worked to raise the money and presented a check on Sept. 19 at the camp amphitheater. The significance of this donation is that the Woods Campground will be identified as a Trailblazer which means that the donation will cover up to one week of a Lifeline Counseling shift.
Over the last year the Trevor Project has directly served 98,000 callers who reached out for support; passed legislation in four states protecting LGBTQ youth from conversion therapy; helped over 90% of youth sustain de-escalation from suicidal ideation and provided 2 million people with a safe, affirming online community through Trevor Space.
Founded in 1998 by the creators of the Academy Award winning short film “Trevor,” The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning young people under 25. Through a toll-free telephone number, it operates The Trevor Lifeline, a confidential service that offers trained counselors.
