Local roundup: Results from Sept. 30

The Tamaqua boys soccer team topped Jim Thorpe in overtime on Wednesday.

Elsewhere, the Olympian girls picked up a cross-country sweep, while Northwestern earned victories in field hockey and girls’ soccer.

BOYS SOCCER

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tyler Steigerwalt’s goal in the second overtime lifted Tamaqua to a 3-2 Schuylkill League win over Jim Thorpe.

After trailing 2-0 at half, the Blue Raiders shut down the Olympians’ attack and rallied in the second half. Steigerwalt also added a goal in the second half, while Ian Davis knotted the game up with a late goal.

Jack Morris and Aiden Clements posted first-half goals for the Olympians, while Chris Condly and Donovan Bierman were credited with assists.

Jon Ulicny posted 10 saves for the Blue Raiders, while the Olympians’ keeper Jacob Geiser grabbed 12 saves.

Lehighton-Pine Grove

Pine Grove rolled to a 5-0 Schuylkill League win over Lehighton.

Hunter Deichert had a hat trick for the Cardinals, while Hanyon Williams added two goals.

FIELD HOCKEY

Pen Argyl-Northwestern

Reagan Hernandez’s hat trick sparked Northwestern’s 7-0 Colonial League victory over Pen Argyl.

The Tigers’ Brinley Rex followed with two goals, while Lauren Schellhamer chipped in with a goal and two assists. Tess Ledeboer (two assists) and Morgan Werley (one goal) also contributed in the win.

Wilson-Northern Lehigh

Wilson topped Northern Lehigh for a 2-0 Colonial League win.

Melissa Shunk and Ella Foulk recorded the Warriors’ goals.

Bulldogs’ keeper Kendall Heiney ended with eight saves.

Palmerton-Moravian Acad.

Three different players scored as Palmerton knocked off Moravian Academy for a 3-2 Colonial League win.

Emily Baumgardt, Megan Serfass and Emma Christman all tallied goals for the Bombers, while Baumgardt and Sydney Frantz were credited with assists.

Phoebe Shane and Amelia Loftus posted the Lions’ scores.

Bombers’ keeper Emily Bollinger recorded eight saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Northwestern-Pen Argyl

Northwestern rolled to a 4-0 Colonial League win over Pen Argyl.

Kylie Zentz led the Tigers with two goals and an assist, while Kayla Bardonner and Camryn Fitch also finished with scores. Olivia Motolese and Lexi Bleam both added assists.

Naomi Glassberg (one save) and Caitlyn Miller (one save) split time in front of the NW cage.

Pine Grove-Lehighton

Pine Grove blanked Lehighton for a 2-0 Schuylkill League victory.

Emma Shadle and Kira Shollenberger both posted first-half goals for the Cardinals.

Indians’ keeper Alyssa Myers grabbed 14 saves.

CROSS COUNTRY

Jim Thorpe - Pine Grove- Minersville-Tamaqua

Jim Thorpe girls ran away with a Schuylkill League sweep.

The Olympians’ trio of Katelyn Bos, Aubrey Bonner and Megan Rosahac crossed the finish line in third, fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Tamaqua boys’ and girls’ teams ended up 2-1 on the day, while Jim Thorpe boys went 1-2.

Grace Stegermerten and Frances Kabana sparked the Blue Raiders girls, finishing first and second, respectively.

Ryan Bailor led the Olympians with a second-place finish in the boys’ meet, while Jesse Gormley posted a Blue Raiders’ best with a seventh-place finish.

FALL BASEBALL

Franklin Twp.-So. Parkland

The Franklin Township Mud Dawgs captured the regular season championship of the Parkland Youth Fall League with a commanding 12-0 victory over the South Parkland Trojans.

The Mud Dawgs’ Cole Dietz tossed a no-hitter, striking out seven Trojans without walking a batter.

Jayse Lawrence (triple) and Landon Abelovsky (double) recorded extra base hits for the winners, while Aiden Solt and Konner Nalesnik both added RBI singles in the memorable win.

Franklin Township ended the regular season with an 8-2 overall record.
