Palmerton news for Sept. 17, 2020

Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), will hold worship on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. There are four options of worship: Worship in sanctuary, must wear a mask, have temperature check, and social distancing required; worship in Leah’s Room with same rules as sanctuary; you may worship in your vehicle in the parking lot and tune to 104.3; or you may join on Facebook live. Service is led by Pastor Rob Timlin Sr.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. is “Prayer & Praise” with the same options of worshipping.

September’s Mission is Samaritan’s Purse. It is a nondenominational evangelical Christian organization providing spiritual and physical aid to hurting people around the world.

All-you-can-eat breakfast

An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton. Menu items include eggs to order, potatoes, pancakes, SOS, toast, cereal, hash, ham, bacon, sausage, OJ, coffee, tea and milk. Masks are required upon entering, exiting, and moving about the building. There will be seating downstairs, upstairs and outside to maintain social distancing.

Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church

Sunday worship services are still being held in the church picnic grove at JELC, 500 Church Drive, Palmerton (Trachsville). Services are held at 10:15 a.m. Services will continue to be held outside as long as possible, weather permitting. In the case that it rains the day or night before, services will be held in the church parking lot. In the case of rain the day of, services will be canceled. Any changes or updates will be posted on Facebook.

This year’s Fall Basket Social has been canceled due to the ongoing COVID-19.

Palmerton Food Pantry

The CACPAC sponsored Palmerton Food Pantry will be held at St. John’s Towamensing Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton on Sept. 25. The pantry supports residents of the Palmerton Area School District only and distributes food on the fourth Friday of each month between 8 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Any changes to this schedule during the holiday season will be posted. The pantry is co-chaired by Barbara Brader and ken Kaiser, who coordinate a team of volunteers who collect food, maintain inventory and speed the distribution process on pantry day. If you have an emergency and are in need of food, please call 610-377-4768 or 610-509-0093. They will meet you at the pantry and see that you have food.

On pantry day please remain in your vehicle and follow instructions given by the volunteers. There is no need to be preregistered. If you are unable to attend, someone may pick up for you. The pantry is always in need of canned food, paper and personal care items. Members of CACPAC collect on a regular basis or donations may be dropped off at 452 and 459 Lafayette Ave., and 1002 Third St. Boxes are on the porches for donations.

Living Hope Lighthouse Church

Worship service at Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 Third St., Palmerton holds Sunday worship services at 10 a.m. Masks are required and as people enter they should observe social distancing.

The members church picnic will be held on Saturday at the Palmerton Memorial Park. The church will provide the meat, and members are asked to bring a side dish or dessert to share. There will be some fun games to play.

Historical Society Sidewalk Sale

The Palmerton Area Historical Society, 410 Delaware Ave., will be having a sidewalk sale on Sept. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sept. 25 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (weather permitting). Any questions regarding this event, please call 610-824-6954. Come see what treasures you may find.

Combined concert

The Lehighton Band and the Palmerton Band will once again join forces to present a combined concert, this time in the Lehighton Park on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. The concert is free to the public. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, exercise social distancing and wear a mask.

Nearly New Shop

The Nearly New Shop, Delaware Avenue, Palmerton, will be holding their end of the season sale on summer clothes beginning this week. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The sale will last several weeks. Please wear a mask when entering the store.

Jerusalem UCC

Worship service at Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Trachsville, will be at 9 a.m. on Sunday in the church grove. The Rev. Jennika Borger will lead the service. Please bring a lawn chair and face mask. Social distancing is required. You can also remain in your car and listen to the service on 95.5 FM. The service will be live on Facebook and will also be recorded and available for viewing around 11 a.m. on the JUCC website. In case of inclement weather the service will be held in the sanctuary. You can remain in your car in the parking lot for this service as well.

The monthly Grief & Loss Support Group will be Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. The group is presently being held on a web platform. Please call the church office for the link, or check for the invitation link on the Facebook page.

The church office will be closed Sept. 25.
