September 17, 1971 - Tamaqua ends Mount Carmel’s 35-game conference winning streak by earning a 23-0 victory. The Blue Raiders, coached by Walt Ligenza, limit their opponent to just 45 yards of offense in posting the shutout. Mark Truskey’s blocked punt rolls out of the end zone for a safety to get the winners on the board in the opening quarter. Later in the frame, Lon Craigle records a sack and forces a fumble, and Harry Krapft returns the loose ball 68 yards to the end zone. A 35-yard touchdown pass from Tom Ferry to Truskey extends the margin, while Rick Jones caps the scoring with a 10-yard TD run.
