A look back: Sept. 16, 1965

U.S. Sen. Joseph S. Clark of Pennsylvania today communicated with Agnes T. McCartney, executive director of the Carbon County Planning Commission, and announced the Mauch Chunk Watershed project has cleared the Bureau of the Budget in Washington, D.C.

The project involved construction of a 325-acre multipurpose reservoir in the Bloomingdale Valley between Jim Thorpe and White Bear.

A committee of interested Carbon County residents visited Washington recently at the invitation of Congressman Frederick Rooney and conferred with Pennsylvania’s two senators, Clark and Hugh Scott, on the project, seeking their support.
