Lehighton state police report on crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes:

• A rear-end crash occurred on Aug. 30 at 11:10 a.m. along Route 903 at Behrens Road in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Peyton N. Gilbert, 19, of Jim Thorpe, was driving a 2013 Hyundai Elantra, northbound when he applied his brakes to make a left hand turn. Danielle L. Murphy, 38, of Jim Thorpe, driving a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe was northbound behind Gilbert. The front of her vehicle hit the rear of Gilbert’s. No one was injured.

Troopers cited Murphy for following too closely.

• Police were summoned to investigate an incident at 8:54 p.m. Aug. 19 along Pohopoco Drive in Towamensing Township.

Police said the driver of the Chevrolet S-10 told them he was eastbound when he attempted to make the U-turn in the bridge area near Deer Lane. Police said the man said the tire “popped” when it struck the curb. Police said the man moved the vehicle from the bridge area to a safe location (a dirt pull off) where he could change the tire.

Police said the man was issued a citation for depositing waste and other material on the highway, property or waters, although they said the citation was not a factor in the blown tire incident.
