The Schuylkill County Human Resources director confirmed Monday she resigned.
Deborah Twigg didn’t provide a reason for her departure.
“I just decided to resign,” she said.
Twigg has been the director since January 2018. She was hired after the former HR director/risk manager Martina Chwastiak retired.
Commissioner Gary Hess said Saturday he and commissioners Barron “Boots” Hetherington and George Halcovage Jr. received copies of her resignation letter after it was first given to county administrator Gary Bender. Bender confirmed her resignation but offered no additional comment. Hess said the effective date is Sept. 4.
Hetherington said Monday he found out Friday Twigg is leaving after reading the letter left on his desk dated Wednesday.
“I wasn’t expecting it,” he said.
He declined to comment on the contents of the resignation letter.
“She’s gone through some difficult times,” he said of her time as HR director for the county.
Hetherington said when he saw Twigg on Friday he will miss her.
“I wish her the best,” he said.
Halcovage didn’t comment on her resignation.
Glenn Roth, first assistant county solicitor, said it is a “personnel matter.”
He had nothing but positive comments about Twigg.
“She’s been an excellent colleague and I wish her well,” Roth said.
