Local Roundup: Palmerton tops MT

Palmerton’s Connie Mack team got in the win column Saturday when it defeated Moore Township.

The victory followed three recent narrow losses.

Chase Reph starred at the plate and also picked up the pitching win as Palmerton gained a 6-3 victory over Moore Township.

Reph finished with two hits and knocked in two runs for the winners. On the mound, he tossed five innings and allowed three hits and one walk while striking out six.

The Bombers opened the scoring in the first when Reph singled and Dalton Remfield double him home. Reph’s sacrifice fly in the third chased home Randon Solt, who was hit by a pitch and stole second and third. Trevor Stroup added an RBI single in the frame.

The winners added a pair of runs in the fourth on an error, and Reph singled home another run in sixth.

Solt scored a pair of runs, while Derek King added a hit and two runs.

Jacob Grammes and Luke Netznik both pitched a scoreless inning of relief and each struck out two batters in preserving the win.

Palmerton-So. Lehigh

Southern Lehigh used a six-run fifth inning to tie Palmerton, and then tallied in the sixth to gain a 9-8 victory over the Bombers.

Randon Solt had two hits, one a double, and knocked in three runs for Palmerton, who led 8-2 at one point. Solt also scored a pair of runs.

Jacob Grammes collected two hits and two RBIs, while Kaleb Eitner added a hit and knocked in two runs. Chase Reph and Dalton Rumfield each finished with a hit and a run, with Luke Netznik had two runs scored.

Moore Twp.-Palmerton

Palmerton jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Moore Township charged back for an 8-6 victory.

Palmerton scored five runs in the first inning without the benefit of a hit as four walks and a pair of errors produced the runs.

In the second, Nate Steinemetz singled and scored on a Randan Solt basehit to make it 6-0.

But Moore Towsnhip’s bats came to life in the later innings as it pounded out 10 hits and scored runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pull out the win.

Palmerton had just three hits in the game, in addition to the singles by Steinmetz and Solt, Nate Stroup added a single. Solt finished with an RBI and a run scored and also stole three bases. Trey Sterling stole two bases and scored a run.

Northwest Beth.-Palmerton

Palmerton failed to protect an early lead once again as it dropped a 6-4 decision to Northwest Bethlehem.

The Bombers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after four innings. Nate Steinmetz’s sacrifice fly scored Dalton Rumfield in the second inning before Connor Beahm, Chase Reph and Kaleb Eitner all drove in fourth inning runs.

But Northwest Bethlehem rallied late, scoring fours runs in the sixth to pull it out.

Randon Solt, Reph, and Rumfield all had a single and scored a run for Palmerton. Luke Netznik added a double.

Hamburg-Tamaqua

Hamburg’s offense exploded in both games of a doubleheader to sweep Tamaqua.

Tristan Baer and Hunter Shuey both hit grand slams in the first game as the Reds rolled to a 14-3 win.

For the Blue Sox, Joey Minehan had two hits and scored a run. Michael Steigerwalt added a hit and two RBIs.

In the second game, Austin Gromlich had three hits and drove in four runs to lift Hamburg to a 14-1 win.

For Tamaqua, Minehan had a hit and a run.
