Weissport addresses zoning officer vacancy

Weissport Councilman Arland Moyer raised a question about unfinished projects Monday night.

“We’ve got projects started that are yet to be finished along with projects proposed that never received approval or denial for,” Moyer said.

Having to run the borough without a code and zoning officer is becoming of concern to borough officials who are aware that permits come with deadlines. After a permit expiries, consequences may be imposed or have a determination made if not adhered to within a set time frame.

Last month the borough received word that Paul Jarrod was stepping in temporarily to take the place of the former code enforcer, Tracy Herman.

Jarrod has now resigned from his position with the Lehigh Valley Inspectors Group. Moyer was notified that there is no one available to take over Weissport’s zoning and code requirements at the moment.

The board will be actively searching for a code enforcement and zoning officer as soon as possible to avoid any implications. They will be reaching out to two former applicants as their contact information is still on file.

Solicitor Greg Mousseau recommended that “council act quickly to get themselves a replacement, even if it’s someone local that could come to our board to work out some things we are stuck with and cannot proceed forward with on a temporary basis just to get the ball rolling and make sure our deadlines haven’t expired.”
