West Penn Township may eventually have a fireworks ordinance on the books.
The township’s board of supervisors recently revisited the subject following a series of complaints in July.
Ultimately, the board said it feels it cannot change anything through an ordinance at present due to the state regulations.
Essentially, supervisors said the only thing the township may be able to do is set times and days when residents can set fireworks off.
Township solicitor Paul J. Datte recommended the board table putting an ordinance in place because there may be new legislation coming out that would allow municipalities to have their own fireworks rules in their own jurisdiction.
The board then made the motion to table its decision on putting a fireworks ordinance in place until it sees what the new legislation would be.
Supervisors discussed the matter in July after the township’s chief of police said there were over a dozen complaints.
