Firefighters respond to bank after furnace malfunction

Firefighters responded to a structure fire that broke out at a bank this morning in Lehighton.

The incident occurred just after 8 a.m. at the Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank on S. Fourth Street.

Borough fire Chief Pat Mriss said the cause of the incident was a furnace malfunction.

Mriss said there were no injuries, as no one was inside the bank because it had yet to open.

He said firefighters had the situation under control within about 10 minutes.

The bank is open.
