Nesquehoning council

Nesquehoning Borough Council, during its meeting last Wednesday, acted on or discussed the following items:

• Approved a Joint UCC Appeals Board request from the borough of Beaver Meadows.

• Approved a request for payment between the Nesquehoning Historical Society and the borough as part of a grant the borough received on the historical society’s behalf.

• Councilwoman Mary Fox announced that they are back in discussions with Eastern Environmental after unit 2 of the wastewater treatment plant was taken offline to look at the paint, which needed to be redone after it had been compromised due to improper installation and the bottom of the tank’s paint was again compromised one year later. It appears the paint was not the issue, but rather how the floor was prepped by the contractor. Further discussion will take place to resolve the matter.

• Council will invite the company that submitted a bid for Johnson Park renovations to attend the upcoming borough council workshop, which will be changed into a voting meeting at 6 p.m. on Aug. 12, to answer several questions council has regarding the project. No action was taken on the bid at that time.

• Council agreed to begin its voting meetings, which are held the fourth Wednesday of the month, at 6 p.m. This is a time change from a previously approved action that meetings would start at 6:30 p.m. This is effective beginning with the August meeting on Aug. 26.
