Man found dead by railroad tracks in Schuylkill

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating the death of a Landingville man found in Wayne Township Sunday.

Blue Mountain Reading & Northern Railroad train operators found the man identified as Chad Evans, 43, on the tracks just south of East Liberty Street, police said.

Police did not provide additional information Tuesday.

Schuylkill County Coroner Dr. David J. Moylan III said the identity of the man was confirmed by identification he had with him. Deputy Coroner Al “Bud” Barnes pronounced the man dead, Moylan said. Barnes was not available for comment.

Moylan said the man had “no apparent injuries,” but a virtual autopsy was done at the Simon Kramer Cancer Institute, New Philadelphia, as a matter of routine protocol.

“We were looking for any signs of trauma or bony fractures,” he said.

A traditional autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at The Dauphin County Forensic Center, Harrisburg.

“State police requested a formal autopsy,” Moylan said.

“There was the presence of drugs and drug paraphernalia on the scene, which means we may be dealing with drug intoxication,” Moylan said.
