A collision on Interstate 78 East in Upper Macungie Township involving an unmarked Pennsylvania State Police car left a trooper and another driver injured.
According to a news release from Pennsylvania State Police:
Around 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon, a trooper stopped and pulled to the right-hand shoulder of the road on I-78 heading east to help a disabled tractor trailer whose engine compartment was on fire.
Another driver heading east on the highway, a 56-year-old man in a sport utility vehicle, struck the trooper’s unmarked vehicle in the rear. His SUV overturned, coming to a rest on the driver’s side.
The state police vehicle came to a rest on the highway’s right shoulder.
Both the trooper and other driver were treated at the scene by Cetronia Ambulance personnel before being taken to Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest.
The crash is still under investigation.
