Thorpe routs Palmerton in CM play

Despite the many hurdles affecting the summer baseball schedule, the Jim Thorpe Connie Mack team still brought plenty of players to its game against Palmerton.

So much so, that Thorpe (1-0), with about 20 players on its roster, fielded two hitting lineups, both of which performed well against the Bombers on Monday.

An impressive offensive showing in the first two innings that featured 12 runs and eight hits set the tone for an eventual 22-2 victory for Thorpe.

The Olympians were zoned in from the onset with Spencer Hunsicker, DJ Richebacher, Brandon Fasolino, Garret Lienhard, Rich Strack, James Lordi, Casey McArdle and Evan Murphy all collecting singles in the first two innings.

In the third, the Thorpe offense exploded once again for seven runs to get out to a 19-0 lead.

With the Olympians offense finding its groove early, their pitching staff took advantage of the confidence boost, holding the Bombers scoreless through six innings until Palmerton was able to get two across in the top of the seventh.

Lordi pitched the opening two frames, allowing just one hit and striking out five. DJ Richebacher pitched the rest of the way for Thorpe, striking out a game-high eight.

Thorpe finished with 20 baseknocks, with Lordi, Fasolino, Lienhard, Jared Marykwas, McArdle and Richebacher all collecting multiple hits.

Richebacher led the way with four RBIs, while Lienhard and Lordi both collected three RBIs apiece.

For Palmerton, Randan Solt, Nate Stroup and Trevor Stroup all had hits.
