Man struck in leg by stray bullet in Schuylkill

State police at Schuylkill Haven are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Sunday in Schuylkill County.

Troopers said about 5:30 p.m. a 72-year-old man, who troopers declined to identify, was sleeping on chair in a wooded area east of Peach Mountain Road in Norwegian Township, near a small pond. He awoke to the sound of gunshots and was struck in the leg by a small caliber round. The victim reported he saw two men across the pond after he was shot, one of them had an “AR-15 style” rifle.

The victim described them as being in their late 20s or early 30s. One of them had a dark beard and the other did not have a beard but had “sandy” colored hair. The suspects did not offer the victim any assistance after apparently shooting him by mistake, and fled the scene.

The victim was dressed in full camouflage. He was discovered on Monday about 9:30 a.m. by two hikers. He was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, for treatment. Anyone with information concerning this incident is asked to call troopers.
