A look back: July 10, 1975

The Mahoning Township Supervisors last night named David Ebbert of Lehighton R.5, a patrolman in the township, as police chief.

Ebbert, who is 34, has been acting chief of police following the retirement of Norman Mertz.

The new chief was an assistant chief since he became a full-time patrolman in August of 1968. Prior to that, he was a part-time officer on the force.

The police department of the township consists of three full-time and three part-time officers.

Upon promoting Ebbert, the supervisors agreed last night to accept applications for a patrolman’s position within the department.
