Rush Twp. issues fireworks reminder

The Rush Township Police Department would like to remind area residents and their guests about the state law governing fireworks.

The current law regarding the use of fireworks has been in effect since 2017. People are allowed to use and possess “Class C” fireworks.

Under the law you are allowed to use Class C fireworks with the following restrictions:

• Private Property: Permission from the property owner is needed to use them on private property.

• Public Property: Firework usage is prohibited on public property in Rush Township.

• They can’t be used within 150 feet of any occupied structure.

• You can’t be under the influence of alcohol or drugs when using fireworks.

• You can’t discharge them toward a vehicle or building, or discharge them from a vehicle or building.

Other municipalities may have local ordinances that further restrict firework usage. Be sure to check your local laws first.

Also keep in mind that you should refrain from setting off fireworks at an unreasonable hour. Please be considerate of your neighbors. The Rush Township Police Department wishes everyone a safe holiday weekend!
