Hazleton state police report on incidents

State police at Hazleton reported on the following incidents:

• Juan Gonzalez Barreto, 27, of McAdoo, has been charged with retail theft for an incident on June 19 about 6:30 p.m. at the Walmart store along Airport Road in Hazle Township, Luzerne County. Troopers said Barreto attempted to steal various food items, household goods and flowers, with a total value of $200.01. Charges were filed.

• Joseph Bodnar, 38, of Hazle Township, has been charged with violating a protection from abuse order. Troopers said he showed up at the residence of a 37-year-old woman along East Broad Street in Beaver Meadows, Carbon County, at 12:55 p.m. on June 19. He was prohibited from contacting her, according to the court order. Charges were filed.

• On Wednesday at 2:57 p.m. troopers responded to the 700 block of Airport Road, in Hazle Township, for a complaint. As a result troopers determined that Latosha Longo, 24, of Tresckow, Carbon County, and Jennifer Arroyo, 31, of Hazleton, engaged in physical contact with each other during a dispute.

Both were issued citations for harassment - physical contact.

• On June 26 at 11:34 p.m. troopers conducted a traffic stop at Lincoln and West Maple streets, in Hazleton. The driver was identified as Blake Sluck, 22, of Tobyhanna, Monroe County. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol to a degree which deemed him unsafe to operate a motor vehicle.

He was placed under arrest for driving under the influence with charges filed.

Crashes

• Troopers investigated a one-vehicle crash about 4 p.m. on June 11 along South Stagecoach Road in Lausanne Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said Gabriel M. Hines, 18, of Weatherly, was driving a 2006 Jeep Liberty northbound when he failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the road. The vehicle went onto the berm and into a wooded area before striking a tree. The vehicle came to rest in the northbound lane.

Hines was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton campus, to be evaluated, troopers said. The vehicle was towed.

Hines was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• A Schuylkill County driver was involved in a one-vehicle crash about 5 a.m. on June 17 along Stockton Mountain Road in Hazle Township, Luzerne County.

State police at Hazleton said Iliana M. Colon Hernandez, 30, of McAdoo, was driving a 2003 Toyota Corolla and lost control of her vehicle while traveling downhill. The Corolla went onto the berm on the right side and struck a boulder. The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damages and had to be towed. Colon Hernandez was not injured. She was cited for the crash.
