Weatherly to begin moving into new borough offices

Weatherly’s Borough offices will begin moving next month into their new building. Weatherly Council, at their meeting June 15, gave staff some extra time to pack, then unpack, when they voted not to hold either a July or August council meeting.

According to borough Manager Harold Pudliner, the new building should be ready at the end of July.

In lieu of the meetings, council members will be called to approve the bills to be paid for July and August. The next formal meeting will be in September, when it will be held in the new meeting room.

As one project wraps up, the borough will get started on the next one, erecting the police department’s garage. Council approved getting started with permits and paperwork. It’s a hope to have the garage up before winter, so that police vehicles will not have to be kept running all night when temperatures get toward freezing. The garage project will also add more parking around the new borough building.

Another item to be done as part of this project is a redesign of the entrance to the property to make it safer to get to the new borough building, and also to the neighboring Legion building. All this new work means the project will disturb more than an acre, so an NPDES erosion control permit will now be needed. The new entrance will need a Highway Occupancy Permit.

In other business, making the Hudsondale Stream channel safer led to getting fencing quotes, as the open channel attracts local children and could be a hazard. Council approved getting the channel fenced at a cost of $5,364.

Four weeks of bills were approved, totaling $154,966. Income was $150,244, mainly from taxes coming in; plus $50,000 from the electric account.

Police reported 308 incidents in May.

Discussion after the meeting was that the old Koehler’s Crossing footbridge was to be removed, and a portion of it left behind for the Weatherly Museum.
