Franklin fire company cancels block party

The coronavirus has laid waste to yet another popular summertime event, this time the Franklin Township’s annual block party.

Township fire Chief Lynn Diehl announced at Tuesday’s board of supervisors meeting that the 40th Annual Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 Block Party won’t be held.

“We canceled the block party,” said Diehl of the three-day event held in July at the fire company, located at 2440 Fairyland Road.

After the meeting, Diehl told a reporter it was a “joint board decision.”

“It’s related to the COVID-19 restrictions and uncertainties,” he said.

However, Diehl said the fire company is looking to try to hold an event in late September.
