Better Schuylkill PAC calls for Independent Government Study Commission

Better Schuylkill PAC wants to make a change. The group released a statement to the media earlier this week.

“For too long, county government has overtaxed us by millions of dollars. This crushing burden of property taxation and other fees and levies imposed by the courthouse is no longer tolerable. We know we cannot rely on the politicians to lighten our load, because they’ve yet to do so. In fact, the load constantly gets heavier.

“So it’s time for taxpayers to take the bull by the horns and force the courthouse to live within its means and operate cleanly, so that our future will be prosperous.

“Beginning June 16, a Home Rule petition will be circulated calling for an independent Government Study Commission to be formed in November.

“This commission will immediately summon courthouse officials to public hearings and thoroughly examine how they are managing our money and our affairs. After that, the commission will propose reforms, such as: term limits on elected officials; the elimination of unneeded, expensive bureaucracy; greater transparency into the inner-workings of the courthouse; mandatory independent financial audits; publishing all government contracts on the county website for all to easily see and much more.

“For those who are overtaxed and underserved, this is a clarion call to pitch in and help your cause, by circulating a petition for Home Rule. Please visit the website BetterSchuylkill.com to volunteer.”
