Palmerton pool only open to season members this year

The pool in Palmerton Memorial Park will entertain season members only this summer because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

In a June 11 letter signed by Vic Jahelka, president of the Palmerton Memorial Park Association, and shared on Facebook, Jahelka wrote that the pool will not be able to accommodate daily memberships when it opens for the season on July 2.

All special events for this year’s season have also been canceled.

Those who aren’t in the Palmerton Area School District and who haven’t purchased a season pass in the recent past will not be able to buy one this year either, the letter states. Swim lessons will not be held.

The decisions were made earlier this month by the board of directors of the Palmerton Memorial Park Association, the letter reads.

Palmerton Pool isn’t the only recreational facility facing difficult decisions due to COVID-19.

The Northern Lehigh Swimming Pool Association won’t open the pool in Victory Park, and the beaches at Beltzville didn’t open until this month.
