The Garlad-Manak-Boyle-Zonca-Whitehead American Legion Post 123 of Lansford will be conducting a flag retirement ceremony at 1 p.m. Sunday in front of the Post Home at 3 W. Ridge St.
The U.S. Flag Code title 36, Section 176 states: “The flag, when it is in such condition that is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.”
Anyone who has any unserviceable flags in their possession and would like to have them properly retired are asked to drop them off at the Post Home prior to the ceremony.
Please remember that this is a very solemn ceremony, as we are laying to rest U.S. flags. Properly retiring flags provides a service to the community and to the nation.
