Baer Memorial Swimming Pool adds wheelchair

A new wheelchair is available to assist the handicapped at Baer Memorial Swimming Pool in Lehighton.

Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 donated $2,500 to the pool for the wheelchair, according to borough recreation director Tom Evans.

“It’s for the handicapped to be able to go into the water,” Evans said. “It’s so they can enjoy the pool as well.”

The donation came from the Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 social quarters small games of chance, according to Lonny Armbruster, president of the Lehigh Fire Co. No. 1 social quarters.

“We try to give back to the community,” Armbruster said. “We try to fund it out to as many as we can.”

Evans noted that the fire company also previously donated $2,500 for safety equipment in the form of AEDs and more.

“It’s a great donation,” he said. “They’ve been very generous to us over the years.”
