Fern Ridge State Police
State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following incidents:
• On June 9 at 3:31 p.m. troopers responded to the Weis Market, at 924 Weir Lake Road, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County, for a theft. The investigation revealed that Nancy Heil, 57, of Effort, used the self checkout line to scan several items making the price 50 cents rather than the original price of $194.67. She was charged with retail theft.
• Troopers were called back to the Weis Market later that day. Store security observed Alphonse Vastano, 55, of Brooklyn, New York, leave the store with various meat and health and beauty items without paying for them. The total value of the items was $386.12. He was charged with retail theft.
• On May 11 at 10:25 a.m., troopers were dispatched to the 900 block of Lower Mountain Drive, in Chestnuthill Township, for a report of an unattended vehicle. The registration plate on the vehicle, a 2005 Honda Accord, indicated it had been stolen. As a result, troopers said Nicole Winters, 25, of Cresco, was charged with receiving stolen property.
• David Thomas, 52, of Hackettstown, New Jersey, was charged after his dog allegedly got loose and bit a 52-year-old man from East Stroudsburg, on his lower right leg causing a minor injury. The incident occurred at 8:34 p.m. on June 6 at Kathy Court in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Thomas was issued a non-traffic citation.
• On June 8 at 10.56 a.m., a resident of Unionville Road, Penn Forest Township, came to the barracks to report his neighbor, identified as Kathleen Clark, 61, of Jim Thorpe, was harassing him. The man said she continually reports his outdoor music to police. An investigation revealed state police had responded to the area on numerous occasions for noise complaints that were never founded. Desk personnel and troopers also reported having received numerous other complaints via phone by Clark following their investigations.
As a result, Clark has been charged with summary offenses of harassment and disorderly conduct.
• On June 7 at 9:45 p.m., troopers responded to a domestic incident at a residence along Route 209 in Gilbert, Chestnuthill Township. The victim, a 42-year-old man, said he and Jacqueline Rios, 39, Gilbert, engaged in a verbal argument. During the argument, Rios began grabbing and slapping him, causing scratches.
Rios was charged with harassment - physical contact.
• On June 4 about 1 p.m., a FedEx driver arrived at a residence along Long Woods Drive, in Chestnuthill Township, to deliver a package. During the delivery, the dog of Tomasz Kowalski, 43, of Saylorsburg, bit the driver on the leg as he walked away from the residence. Kowalski was charged, troopers said.
• Police were summoned to a fight at 7:23 p.m. May 27 along Michael Lane in Jackson Township and ended up citing two boys, ages 16 and 17, from Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg, respectively, on charges of harassment and disorderly conduct.
Police said one of the boys had minor cuts and bruises as a result of the incident.
