Polk meeting

A general meeting of the Polk Township Board Supervisors is on the calendar for 8 a.m. Thursday.

General meetings are for time-sensitive matters that need to be taken care of.

Board of education

Pleasant Valley School District’s Board of Education is scheduled to meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the District office.

Drive-in service

Pleasant Valley Assembly of God Church, Brodheadsville, will continue with its drive-in service again on Sunday at 10 a.m.

The church will be also having a drive-through takeout dinner on Monday from 3 to 5 p.m.

WELL board meets

According to the group’s posted calendar, the West End Little League board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Chestnuthill Township Park on Route 715. This is for board members only.

The open meeting is at 7:30 p.m. June 18, also at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville.

Children’s meals

From Colleen Walsh, operations manager at the PVEN Food Pantry & Clothing Closet, comes a reminder that free summer meals, for children 18 and under, will be available at Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville from 9 a.m. to noon Monday, Wednesday and Friday all summer long.

There are no income requirements, no registrations necessary and no questions asked. Just show up and receive free meals for your children.

Effort pantry

The SFRC at Effort UMC has continuing needs to better serve its users. Those needs are macaroni & cheese, Ramen noodles, canned soups and vegetables of any kind.

It is suggested to call first to make sure someone is there to receive donations. The SFRC is slated to be open this Saturday, with a drive-in type of service.

Users are asked to follow the directions of the parking coordinators and not get out of their vehicle.

Closed due to Flag Day

Due to Monday being Flag Day, the Monroe County Area Agency on Aging will be closed that day.

Reading program

Western Pocono Community Library begins its virtual reading program this coming Monday. It runs through Aug. 7, according to the library’s Facebook page.

Grab & Go bags has been available as part of the library’s curbside service since this past Monday.

Chestnuthill meeting

The Chestnuthill Township Board of Supervisors is on the calendar for its meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Program begins

The Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center will be offering Summer Programs for Children beginning this coming Tuesday.

Age groupings available are ages 3-6 (one parent must attend with child), ages 7-10 and ages 11-14. Preregistration is required and limited to 10 guests per program. Only the registered participant and one parent for ages 3-6 group only, may attend the program.

Registration for each program will close once the program is full or the day prior to the program. Those who are not registered in advance will not be permitted to attend. Programs will start promptly at designated times. Pay at the time of program. Cash or check made payable to MCCD only.

Face coverings must be worn by all attendees at all times as required by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines. Building and gift shop not open to public.

No tennis lessons

Tennis lessons for June and July hosted by the West End Park and Open Space Commission have been canceled due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Free dinner

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, intends to have a free community dinner from 5 to 6 p.m. June 17. It is slated to be a free bagged meal by way of a drive-thru.

One is to enter the parking lot and follow the instructions given by the attendant.

Grilling gift

The West End Park and Open Space Commission anticipates hosting a Father’s Day Grilling Potholder Craft on June 20 at the Ross Township Park on Anchorage Road in Saylorsburg from 10 a.m. to noon drop-in.

Children will get everything they need to decorate a potholder for Dad to use with their barbecue.

It is a free drop-in event while supplies last, but could be changed to curbside pickup, depending on COVID-19 health guidelines at time of the event.

Blood drive

The blood drive taking place June 29 at the Chestnuthill Township Park in Brodheadsville already has several appointments filled for donating blood or Power Red.

Call 1-800-RED-CROSS to schedule yours for either category or donating platelets or AB plasma. Appointments are needed.

Soccer registration

West End Soccer is currently accepting registrations for the 2020 season. No registration will be accepted after July 1.
