Monroe Commissioners approve grants for redevelopment

During the Monroe County Commissioners meeting last week, a request from the Act 137 Affordable Housing Board was approved unanimously.

This act awards a grant to support services for seniors which provide minor home repairs to low-income seniors across the county. The partial grant totaled $10,000.

Additionally, the commissioners approved funding requests as recommended by the Act 137 Affordable Housing Board. The funding requests include the following organizations:

• Shepherd’s Maternity House: $6,000

• Pocono Area Transitional Housing (PATH): $7,000

• Pocono Mountains United Way: $4,000

• The Salvation Army: $10,000

• Family Promise of Monroe County: $9,000

The commissioners also approved a submission of the 2020 Community Development Block Grant for a total of $654,680.

The 2020 CDBG provides yearly grants across the county.

Funding from this grant program is meant to develop local communities by helping low to moderate income individuals attain quality housing and improved living standards.
