W. Penn considers donation of 20-plus acres to convert into park

West Penn Township could assume ownership of 20 acres of land to build a park in the vicinity of the old Atlas Powder plant.

It was announced at Monday’s board of supervisors meeting that the township has been offered a donation of between 20 to 25 acres of land from a resident.

Board Chairman Tony Prudenti said that negotiations are underway regarding the land for a potential park in the area of the old Atlas Powder plant.

Prudenti said the township must first see if the donation of the land would prove to be a worthwhile endeavor.

“It would take us a little while to develop it,” Prudenti said. “We’re trying to secure the land, and we’ll go from there.”

Prudenti added that the township is in the process of getting prices for a survey and wetlands delineation.

“Hopefully this is going to be a tremendous asset to the township,” he said. “We’re keeping all our options open, and if it turns out, it could be a real gem of the township.”
