Batter’s Box announces temporary closure

Some organizations and businesses have shut down for good. Others are temporarily closed.

One way or the other, the COVID-19 pandemic has found a way to disrupt the operations of many both locally and nationally.

While the Coronavirus has caused multiple TN area businesses to close for good, the threat of COVID-19 is also causing some to temporarily close its doors.

Earlier this week, both La Dolce Casa in Tamaqua and the Batter’s Box Sports Bar & Grille in Summit Hill decided to shut down for a few days.

Both restaurants made precautionary moves voluntarily.

“I don’t want to get anyone sick,” said Danny Matika, owner of the Batter’s Box. “We’ve gone 10 weeks now, always cleaning our building in-and-out. I don’t want to be the person to bring COVID to Summit Hill. We’re going to start deep cleaning in the next few days.”

Matika said he does not have the virus and is symptom-free.

“We have made a very necessary decision to close until further notice,” Matika said on a Facebook post Monday. “Myself and some staff members may have been exposed to an individual who tested positive for the COVID virus. We will take every possible safety step to deep clean and sanitize the Box like we have done since the start of this epidemic. Our employees and customers deserve the utmost confidence that we will keep them safe and healthy and this is the way we have decided to do it. Temporary closure gives us the opportunity to not only clean but get ready for when we can reopen and make your experience better and safer than ever.”

Matika plans to have a crew come in to meticulously clean the venue. “We’ll do a whole deep clean sweep of the entire restaurant ... early next week we should get the green light.”
