Nesquehoning extends tax penalty period

Nesquehoning is pushing back the penalty period for property, occupational and per capita taxes for this year in response to the pandemic.

On Wednesday, borough council adopted a resolution waiving any late fees or penalties of these taxes if they are paid in full at the base rate by Oct. 31.

The penalty phase for this year will now begin on Nov. 1.

According to the resolution, all other municipal tax rates remain unchanged.

This action follows the same path as many other municipalities, as well as Carbon County, that have been delaying the 2020 tax base period to allow residents affected by the COVID-19 pandemic more time to pay without penalty.
