Motorcycle driver hits deer, taken to hospital

A motorcyclist was injured Monday morning when involved in a crash in West Penn Township. The incident occurred around 7:30 a.m. as the biker was traveling north on Route 309 and struck a deer.

The bike slid along the roadway, coming to rest on the berm. The male victim was treated at the scene by members of the Penn Mahoning ambulance then transported along with Lehighton paramedics to a Lehigh Valley area trauma center.

West Penn Township police chief Brian Johnson is investigating the incident. Members of the West Penn fire company maintained traffic control at the scene.
