Weatherly Borough Council met at noon this Monday in a mixed meeting, part socially distanced and part by telephone.
Three council members, Mayor P.J. Hadzick and three staff were present with three more council members attending by phone.
Bills of $119,752 were approved for payment.
Council approved a resolution that postpones the penalty period for paying borough property tax and the per capita tax until Oct. 31. Taxpayers can pay the face value of the tax through October - which is a three-month extension. The 10% penalty period will now start on Nov. 1.
Council also approved a resolution to borrow $750,000 from Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank at a rate of 1.9% in anticipation of tax and grants revenues.
There was no public comment.
In Manager Harold Pudliner’s report, residents are reminded garbage pickup after Memorial Day will be Tuesday, May 26. Another reminder about pickup - the garbage hauler will not be picking up large bulk items until the pandemic has passed.
Due to the coronavirus, the Memorial Day parade and ceremonies by American Legion Post 360 are canceled, but the Post will hold a ceremony to salute the dead at local cemeteries this Sunday.
The Community Yard Sale has been canceled for this year.
Plans are to open the concession stand at Eurana Park starting June 2 for takeout service from the window.
The Police Department reports 177 incidents in April. Police wrote 20 traffic tickets, and filed four criminal charges. Eighty dollars in parking tickets were collected.
The next Weatherly Council meeting will be June 15, at a time to be announced.
