Sunday update: Pa. adds 623 COVID-19 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of midnight that there are 623 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 62,234. All 67 counties in Pennsylvania have cases of COVID-19.

Today, the state is reporting 4,418 total deaths, an increase of 15 new deaths.

There are 1,807 patients hospitalized, with 414 on ventilators.

Carbon County reported four new cases for a total of 214, with the death total from positive cases at 17.

Monroe County added six cases and now has 1,254 positives. The death total remains 70.

Schuylkill County added 13 cases for a total of 525 positive cases. Deaths remain level at 15.

Lehigh County has 3,470 cases. The death total remains 139.

Northampton County added 44 positive cases and now has 2,703. Northampton added three deaths for a total of 199.

Luzerne County is reporting 13 new cases for a total of 2,526. There are still 127 deaths.

“As counties move from red to yellow, we need all Pennsylvanians to continue to follow the social distancing and mitigation efforts in place,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. “We must continue to protect our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians, which includes our seniors, those with underlying health issues, our healthcare workers and our first responders. I am proud of the work that Pennsylvanians have done so far, but we cannot stop now, we must continue to take the necessary steps to protect ourselves from COVID-19.”

There are 270,670 patients who have tested negative to date. Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:

• Nearly 1% are aged 0-4;

• Nearly 1% are aged 5-12;

• Nearly 2% are aged 13-18;

• Nearly 6% are aged 19-24;

• Nearly 37% are aged 25-49;

• Nearly 26% are aged 50-64; and

• Nearly 29% are aged 65 or older.

Most of the patients hospitalized are aged 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 13,447 resident cases of COVID-19, and 2,091 cases among employees, for a total of 15,447 at 558 distinct facilities in 45 counties. Out of our total deaths, 3,057 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

Carbon has 58 positive cases among residents and five among employees in two facilities. There have been a total of 13 deaths.

Lehigh has 651 cases in residents and 127 in employees across 26 facilities with 109 deaths.

Monroe is reporting 147 cases in residents and 44 in employees in eight facilities. There have been 35 deaths.

In Northampton, there are 656 cases in residents and 154 in employees in 14 facilities. There have been 128 deaths.

Schuylkill is reporting 78 cases in residents and 19 instances among employees across 10 facilities. There have been two deaths.

In Luzerne, there are 407 cases among residents and 75 in employees in 20 facilities, with 93 deaths.

Approximately 4,451 of our total cases are in health care workers.
