Tamaqua YMCA won’t reopen

The Tamaqua YMCA announced today that it will not reopen after the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions ease up.

“It is with great sadness that we announce that, after nearly 24 years in this wonderful community, we have made the difficult decision not to reopen the Tamaqua YMCA facility in 2020. As you can imagine, like most businesses, the COVID-19 virus/pandemic has hit our YMCA hard. Our Y has struggled for years financially and it has been extremely difficult for us to meet the operating expenses of the facility. As our lease expires at the end of the 2020, we have had to make this incredibly difficult decision,” the Y posted on Facebook today.

Bank draft members will be receiving a refund check for their membership dues for the month of March. Annual members will receive a refund check for the balance of unused fees paid.

“The spirit of the Y has always been to bring the community together and we want you to keep that spirit alive,” the Facebook post said,
