Pa. adds 986 COVID-19 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health today confirmed as of midnight that there are 986 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 60,622. All 67 counties in Pennsylvania have cases of COVID-19.

Today, the state is reporting 4,342 total deaths, an increase of 124 new deaths. Of the 124 new deaths, 89 were a result of reconciliation over the last several weeks; 35 of the deaths were ones reported to the department within the last few days.

Carbon County remained at 206 positive cases and 17 deaths. Carbon now has 1,575 negative tests.

Monroe County added two cases and now has 1,242 positives and one additional death, bringing the total to 70. Monroe has 3,917 negative tests.

Schuylkill County is reporting 506 positive cases, up from 490, and 3,022 negative tests. Schuylkill added one death, bringing the total to 15.

Lehigh County has 3,396 positive cases, an increase from the 3,378 previously reported, and 10,165 negative tests. Lehigh also has three additional deaths, which bring the total to 136.

Northampton County added 34 positive cases and now has 2,600, and 9,196 negative tests. Northampton also added 14 deaths, bringing the total to 196.

Luzerne County is reporting 2,491 positive cases, 7,587 negative tests and 127 deaths.

“As counties move from red to yellow, we need all Pennsylvanians to continue to follow the social distancing and mitigation efforts in place,” Secretary of Health Dr. Rachel Levine said. “We must continue to protect our most vulnerable Pennsylvanians, which includes our seniors, those with underlying health issues, our healthcare workers and our first responders. I am proud of the work that Pennsylvanians have done so far, but we cannot stop now, we must continue to take the necessary steps to protect ourselves from COVID-19.”

There are 259,210 patients who have tested negative to date. Of the patients who have tested positive to date the age breakdown is as follows:

• Nearly 1% are aged 0-4;

• Nearly 1% are aged 5-12;

• Nearly 2% are aged 13-18;

• Nearly 6% are aged 19-24;

• Nearly 37% are aged 25-49;

• Nearly 26% are aged 50-64; and

• 28% are aged 65 or older.

Most of the patients hospitalized are aged 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 12,937 resident cases of COVID-19, and 2,039 cases among employees, for a total of 14,976 at 550 distinct facilities in 44 counties. Out of our total deaths, 2,991 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities.

Carbon County has two facilities with positive COVID-19 cases - 58 among residents and five among employees. There have been a total of 13 deaths.

Lehigh County has 26 facilities with positive cases, with 590 among residents and 122 in employees. There have been 106 deaths.

In Northampton County, there are 14 facilities with positive cases, with 634 cases among residents and 154 cases in employees. There have been 128 deaths.

Schuylkill County has 10 facilities with positive cases. There have been 66 instances in residents, 19 in employees and two deaths.

Luzerne County reported 19 facilities with positive cases. There have been 404 cases in residents, 71 in employees and a total of 93 deaths.

Approximately 4,349 of our total cases are in health care workers.
