A look back: May 13, 1975

Coaldale Borough Council officials last night voted to lease the southeastern portion of the former Coaldale High School football field to the town’s fire company for a new firehouse.

Voting in favor of the lease were Councilmen Bernard Arner, John Radocha, Michael Balazovich, John McGeehan and President Frank Petrash. Margaret Sharpe cast the only dissenting ballot.

The action followed a discussion led by former Mayor Joseph Sharpe, who said the fire company plans would interfere with the Coaldale Little League field.

Solicitor Paris DeSantis said after the vote that the lease, which legally enacted, would be subject to approval of the project by the town’s zoning hearing board.
