Tamaqua Memorial Day Parade canceled

The annual Tamaqua Memorial Day parade scheduled for May 25 has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The C.H. Berry American Legion Post 0173 honor guard will render military rifle salute, taps and laying of wreaths at the three memorials in town beginning at 11 a.m.

These six legionnaires will receive their certificate of continued membership: 50 years, John F. Stumer, E. Allen Smith and Robert J. Rowan - all Vietnam veterans; with 75 years, Alma M. Klotz, Earl Bridygham and Earl H. Boettger - all World War II veterans.

The Memorial Day service of Remembrance is also canceled, but to continue the town’s annual observation of Memorial Day, a virtual service of Remembrance for Tamaqua will be posted on Tamaqua Remembers Facebook page on May 25 at 11 a.m., which will include the reading of deceased veterans’ names who have passed since Memorial Day 2019.

Mark the National Moment of Remembrance at 3 p.m. on Memorial Day.
