Walker Twp. Supervisor McMullen resigns

Craig Wagner, supervisors’ chairman for Walker Township, led a telephone conference in place of the monthly meeting. The township will continue to hold telephone meetings in place of their monthly meetings until the governor’s stay-at-home orders are withdrawn.

Vice Chairman William R. McMullen handed in his resignation letter to the Board of Supervisors of Walker Township.

Wagner left McMullen a message asking him to reconsider, but McMullen has not yet been heard from.

“The township would like to thank Bill McMullen for his many years of service as both a township supervisor and a planning commission member,” Wagner said.

His resignation was approved. His reason for resigning is unknown at this time.

Walker Township is looking to hire a new board supervisor between now and their June meeting on June 4. Letters of interest and resumes may be sent to secretary Ann Ostergaard at walkertwpsecretary@gmail.com and more contact information can be found on walkertwp.com.

The board will announce a night they will dedicate to interviews.

Solicitor Chris Riedlinger told the township that they can swear in another supervisor as soon as the day of the June meeting as long as Ostergaard brings her notary supplies.

Road work

At the beginning of the meeting, resident Randy Bensinger questioned the board of supervisors about shoulders and potholes that he said needed to be dealt with. The board had roadmaster Chad Felty, Riedlinger and David Horst of Alfred Benesch attend the meeting to provide more insight into the road issues the township has been experiencing.

The board said they discovered some flaws during their road inspection, some issues that were due to heavy rain, on Lehigh & New England Trail, Wildcat Road, Mountain Road, Meadow Lane and Brook Lane. Below are some details of the road reconstruction to be done, as outlined by Felty:

• Replace steam crossing pipe on Meadow Lane

• Shoulder work on Brook Lane and Mountain Road

• Shoulder widening and stream crossing wing wall work

• Pipe replacement on Shady Lane/Swamp Lane intersection

The board said they need to take more measurements at Wildcat Road and give them to Horst so they can properly fix the issues with drainage, find the needed material and find the right dressing. Some areas must be redressed while others, Wagner said, have severe washout and need to be redone.

“We need all of that water to go somewhere,” Horst said.

The board and everyone else who is working on the project for Wildcat Road and surrounding streets have detailed a map with red and green markings. The green markings need to be cleaned up and would be cleaned with no charge to the township, while the red markings signify a deeper issue.

“Everything needs to be cleaned up, especially the red areas,” Wagner said. “There is still movement on the green areas, but it’s not as bad (as the red areas).”

Horst said that it’s obvious there will be drainage issues in the red areas but that all the road work should hold up, as long as it doesn’t heavily rain in the first few weeks of job completion.

Horst also said that the quicker the board is able to collect more measurements, the quicker the job can be done. Wagner said Horst should have measurements by today.

The board hopes the June meeting can be held in person, and updated information will also be found on their township website.
