A Schuylkill County woman was killed in a three-vehicle crash that occurred at 10:52 a.m. Thursday along Route 61, near Brick Hill Road, in West Brunswick Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Abbey E. Whalen, 41, of Pottsville was pronounced dead at the scene.

Troopers said John A. Chowansky, 65, of Pine Grove, was driving a 2016 Dodge Ram 1500 truck southbound when his vehicle hit a 2013 Dodge Caliber driven by Gabrielle K. Rhodes, 21, of Schuylkill Haven, in the left lane.

Chowansky’s vehicle continued southbound and hit Whalen’s 2019 Volkswagen Tiguan in the right lane. After impact the Tiguan and Dodge Ram continued through the intersection with Brick Hill Road and came to rest on top of an embankment along the berm.

Chowansky and his passenger, Patricia A. Chowansky, 68, same address, and Rhodes all sustained suspected minor injuries but did not require medical attention. The crash is still under investigation.
